Noise Assessment

At OHS, we understand the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for your employees. That's why we offer comprehensive Noise Survey services in accordance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. Identifying and mitigating excessive noise levels is crucial to protect your workforce from the potential hazards of noise-induced hearing loss and related health issues.

So, when do you need a Noise Survey?

  1. Initial Assessment: If you have never had workplace noise levels assessed, it is essential to conduct a Noise Survey, especially if there is a possibility that noise levels exceed 80dB(A). As a general rule of thumb, if you have to raise your voice to be heard, noise levels are likely to be near 80dB(A). An initial assessment provides a baseline understanding of noise exposure in your workplace.

  2. Changes in the Workplace Environment: If any changes have occurred in the workplace environment since the last noise survey, such as new machinery, equipment, layout modifications, or work processes, a new survey is necessary. These changes can impact noise levels and may require adjustments to control measures.

  3. Regular Monitoring: It is recommended to conduct a Noise Survey at least every three years, even if no significant changes have occurred. Regular monitoring ensures continued compliance with noise exposure limits and allows for the evaluation of existing control measures' effectiveness.

  4. Health Surveillance Findings: If the results of health surveillance indicate a decline in acceptable hearing ability among your workforce, it is crucial to conduct a Noise Survey. This helps identify potential causes and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate further hearing damage.

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 sets clear limits for workplace noise exposure, and it is the responsibility of employers to ensure compliance with these limits. Our Occupational Hygienist Services specialize in conducting thorough workplace noise monitoring surveys, providing you with a precise representation of noise levels in your work environment.

We utilize advanced techniques such as personal noise dosimetry and frequency band analysis to establish workers' noise exposure levels. This enables us to take a focused approach to implementing effective noise control measures tailored to your specific needs.

Following the Noise Survey, we provide you with a comprehensive report. This report includes detailed information on individual employees' noise exposure levels, background noise levels, adequacy of existing controls, and practical recommendations to help you achieve lower exposure levels. Additionally, we highlight any gaps in legislative compliance and provide recommendations on achieving and maintaining compliance.

At OHS, we are committed to protecting your workforce from excessive noise exposure. Contact us today to schedule a Noise Survey and take proactive steps towards creating a safer and healthier work environment for your employees.
